The good news is that the bells for silver and gold are starting to ring again! Initially only a few people can hear them. In this essay we will look for these bells, and check to find out if they are loud enough to excite those investors who like to ‘buy low and sell high’. Update (5/18/07): The HUI ended the week by closing up 1.9% on Friday. We will be looking for the HUI to post a few progressively higher closes above support at 330 before we are convinced that the we have seen the bottom and should add to positions. Head-fakes tend to be very painful, so it is prudent to wait for confirmation before jumping back in.

In the face of a declining overall energy market today, three of our favorite alternative energy stocks posted strong gains on high volume.
The Oil Services HOLDRs ETF (OIH) was down 2% and the PowerShares WilderHill Clean Energy ETF (PBW) was down 1.7%. Indeed, the vast majority of the energy stocks that we track were in the red. But bucking the trend were two energy stocks that we have profiled in the recent past and a third company that we will begin covering today.
