Some disturbing facts. 1) the Fischer Tropf process is hugely CO2 inefficient, wasting a lot of potential hydrocarbon energy in the process of conversion. As a result, Sasols Secunda plant is the single biggest greenhouse gas emmission site on the planet. 2) Don't for a minute think that non-shareholder South Africans benefit in any way from the clean fuel produced by Sasol - most produced synfuel is exported to countries with strict emission criteria and locally, South Africans are sold poorly refined dirty fuel through bilateral agreements with Petro-SA. South Africa has shocking emissions criteria and catalytic converters are rare - as a result, some cities like beautiful Cape Town have some of the highest levels of particulate pollution in the world - 60% of this is derived from dirty diesel fuels.If you do not believe me, come to Cape Town in 2010 for the soccer world cup and see for yourself. I have sold all my Sasol shares in disgust - This company is driven by shareholder greed and is selling our birthright and beautiful country to the highest bidder.
