The society is trained to live as big as possible, then pray someone can get them out of the situation they put themselves in when tides turn for the worst. As for the need to move back to a commodity based currency, as bad as we need to do so, it won't happen in this environment. The Fed and Treasury Secretary will rather deflate the currency and cover up the real problem instead of dealing with the real problem. This is why I like investments that can shield me from these environments (e.g. gold).
